Story by Chris: Although cool to show off your new learned skill, let me tell you the last time I did a wheelie. I was on an SV1000S, stopped at a red light when a familiar face pulled up next to me. He rolled down the window and asked, “Want to race?” In my mind I said, “Oh please, son.” The light turned green and I was across the intersection before he could get over the cross walk. The front wheel naturally went up and I was doing a full wheelie down the road. As soon as I landed the front wheel, I noticed that the car right in front of me was a cop car. The car right beside it was an undercover cop car and behind me, there were two other cops that were waiting at the intersection. Of course, I got busted. My friend drove by waving out the window. I called him and said, “Well, looks like you won bro.”

The officer told me the offense of doing a wheelie in Utah. He said it was a class B misdemeanor. But what exactly is this? According to Utah law, it is the following:

• Class B: Assault, resisting arrest, DUI, reckless driving, possession of marijuana under one ounce, possession of drug paraphernalia, shoplifting (under $300), trespass of a dwelling, public nuisance, concealed weapon, and many traffic offenses.

You are deemed on the same level as a drunk driver, or someone who committed assault! I couldn’t believe it when the officer told me. He also mentioned that if my college found out about a class B misdemeanor, they would kick me out and it would be as if I hadn’t gone to college at all. Luckily the officer only gave me a speeding ticket, if it was anything more, it would have had severe consequences on my part.
